SCORES of illegal Burmese immigrants were crammed in trucks and expelled from Thailand this morning in this city just five kilometers from the Burmese border.
Police swept the busy market quarter of town in the morning arbitrarily demanding identification and arresting those without papers.
Said one itinerant worker, whose mother was trucked back to the border and sent home via the Thai-Burma Friendship Bridge: “It doesn’t matter, I’ll go meet her at the bridge in the morning and she can come home.”
His boss concurred: “No problem, very easy for her to come back.”
