Senator Richard Colbeck
TASMANIAN Liberal Senator Richard Colbeck has welcomed Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as he makes his first substantial visit to North West Tasmania and the electorate of Braddon today since 2007. “Mr Rudd had a brief photo stop at Port Sorell Surf Club last year but this is the first time he has really returned to visit Braddon since the 2007 election campaign,” Senator Colbeck said. “And, in that time, the voters of Braddon have formed a long list of questions, including:

Tarkine Loop Road:

“Why won’t you and Sid Sidebottom oppose the plan by Premier David Bartlett and Bryan Green to cut a swathe through the Tarkine to build a new road that is not needed?

Hampshire Rail Line:

“What do you intend to do with the $30 million that you promised to spend on upgrading the Burnie to Hampshire rail line now that the future of services look doubtful?

Mersey Hospital:

“How much of the $45 million that you promised would be spent in the North of the State (“not a dollar, not a cent”) was spent in Hobart? Why did you make a promise you knew you could not keep?

Cancer Services:

“With significant job losses in this region, will you commit to providing the linear accelerator that Mr Sidebottom promised during the election campaign?

“It is disappointing that we have these issues outstanding but the voters of Braddon deserve to have these questions answered,” Senator Colbeck said.
