“And if people vote for a Party affiliated candidate in the upcoming Windermere election, they’ll just be getting a glove puppet who’ll do exactly what the Party tells them to – and that means more politicians.”

“The no brainer for the year is this – do you want more doctors and nurses or more politicians?”

MORE DOCTORS NEEDED – NOT MORE POLITICIANS

PETER KAYE

Independent Candidate for Windermere- MEDIA RELEASE

Tasmania is already over-serviced with politicians and we don’t need any more, according to Peter Kaye, independent candidate for Windermere.

Mr Kaye said that, between the two Houses of State Parliament, Tasmania had 40 Members or for every 12,363 people, the second lowest ratio in the country.

“That’s twice as many State politicians per head compared to South Australia and Western Australia, three times as many as Victoria and four times as many as Queensland and New South Wales.”

“Our total State Budget for 2008 / 2009 was $4 billion. That’s equivalent to the 2008/2009 budget just for roads in the New South Wales government so what on earth are our Ministers on about?”

Mr Kaye said all three parties had indicated they favour more politicians in Tasmania’s Lower House.

“Do you want to retain or increase the numbers of police or have more politicians?”

“Do you want to see the public service slashed so we can have more politicians?”

“The only one I’ve seen working very hard this year is Lara Giddings who seems to be the spokesperson for everything. She’s carrying a giant workload but where are all the other invisible Ministers?”

Mr Kaye said he could never support legislation that increased the size of Tasmania’s Parliament while so many other matters in this State needed urgent financial attention.
