Lennon set to return
Hag
IN a shock announcement later this morning former Premier Paul Lennon will announce he will stand for Labor at the next state election, then challenge for the leadership of the party. Mr Lennon will say he has been prompted to come out of retirement after pressure from party powerbrokers Michael Field, Michael Aird and Michael Polley. They and he believe Labor has drifted from its philosophical fundamentals and is becoming too kind, clever and connected. His platform will be simple: pulp mills for the Tamar Valley, Huonville and Hampshire, the damning of the Franklin, and the clearfelling of the Tarkine and Tasmania’s remaining old-growth forests. There will also be an increase in the rate of conversion of prime agricultural land to plantations. Federal Hotels controlled pokie numbers around Tasmania will be trebled. He will announce also that on re-election he will appoint Bryan Green as his deputy and reinstate Steve Kons to the role of Attorney-General. He also will prevail on retired Richard McCreadie to return to duty as Police Commissioner.
