Community group makes buying solar power easy

South Hobart Sustainable Community Media Alert – 20th March 2009
VOLUNTEERS of community group South Hobart Sustainable Community are enabling the purchase of affordable solar power across southern Hobart through a bulk purchase offer.

“The group was formed to help people in our local community achieve a more sustainable lifestyle, and the purchase of solar power was identified early on as one of the best ways to do this,” said Ben Clark of South Hobart Sustainable Community.

“We have researched the main providers of solar power and chosen what we believe is the best supplier for bulk orders. This makes it easy for all those people out there who are keen to purchase solar power, but don’t have the time to do the research.”

The chosen supplier, Rezeko, has a strong track record in working with community groups, having managed over 50 bulk purchase programs to date.

Due to changes in the Federal Government rebates, this is the best time to go solar for eligible households[1]. For those households eligible for the Government rebate of $8000, this will result in an average cost of less than $3,000 for a one kilowatt system. From July, the Government will introduce a new rebate system, and for most people, the cost of each solar installation will likely increase by several thousand dollars.

“The bulk purchase scheme is not limited to people who live in South Hobart, so people living within 10km of the South Hobart Post Office are encouraged to register their interest and attend the meeting. Basically, the more people who join the scheme, the less each household will pay for their system. We urge people to come to the public meeting to find out more and register their interest,” concluded Mr Clark.

With more than 50 households already registering interest, there is a significant and growing level of community interest.
