Bart addicted to power
Nick McKim MP. Greens Leader. Thursday, 19 March 2009. Challenging Times Call for Leaders Prepared to Work Constructively
THE Tasmanian Greens today accused Premier David Bartlett of being addicted to absolute power after he reportedly ruled out working constructively with the Greens in the event of a power-sharing Parliament after the next election.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said Tasmania is facing significant challenges in the future, and the best way to deal with those is for political leaders to work together to deliver outcomes.
“For Tasmania to best meet the challenges of our times, political leaders have to be prepared to work together. I’m not sure what Mr Bartlett finds so repugnant about working co-operatively,” Mr McKim said.
“Mr Bartlett is addicted to absolute power, but the Greens stand ready to work constructively to deliver outcomes for Tasmania.”
“Mr Bartlett is effectively saying that he is not prepared to accept the will of the people, which is fundamentally immature and anti-democratic.
“I genuinely believe that Tasmanians want a less adversarial, more constructive approach from political leaders, and the Greens remain committed to this ideal.”
