What is Tasmania’s plan for the NW plantations given 40 degrees and a hot, dry northerly wind? This is not a flippant or opportune question. The average plantation life is twenty years before harvest. How much would you invest on a twenty year cycle for a eucalypt plantation on a dry continent? The arguments have been made by Bob Loone and various dairy farmers in the NW as to the extent of the plantation estate. I first asked this question in Lucaston in 2004. It has always been a gamble.
