Abetz has now been nominated in the number one position on the Liberal Party ticket as a potential Tasmanian Senator at the next Federal Senate Election. As a result I hereby put Abetz on notice, that should he be elected I will dispute his right to sit in the Australian Senate by a Petition to the High Court.
DEAR SIR,
Further to my previous posts on Tasmanian Times regarding the former Minister for Forests in the Liberal Government, Senator Abetz and his right to sit in the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, I enclose further correspondence with the Senate, High Court and newspapers in Tasmania.
I quote from the attached letter from the Registrar of the High Court “Petitions disputing the validity of any election or return must be filed within 40 days after the return of the writ for the election….” I suggest, therefore, that Abetz will keep until the next election, for what appears to be an existing preventative time bar will then be overcome.
I also enclose my letter regarding “nominations by the Tasmanian Liberal Party” to the Editors of both the Mercury and Examiner, neither newspaper would publish this letter even as a paid advertisement. Free speech through the medium of the press seems to have no place in today’s Tasmania. Tasmanian Times provides a forum for the people to record contemporary Tasmanian history its columns will prove a reliable resource for those who chronicle and interpret this history in the future.
