Tasmanian community members send postcards to Lang Walker
Postcards written by community members at last Sunday’s Ralphs Bay Fair in the Lauderdale Hall should now have reached property developer Lang Walker in Sydney.
Visitors from as far away as Margate and Richmond joined locals in expressing the hope that Mr. Walker may now be reconsidering his projects and priorities around Australia.
One postcard writer said,
“In light of the current economic crisis and the overwhelming opposition to this proposal, it is never too late to admit that this was a flawed proposal from the beginning, and you will be withdrawing it from the RPDC.”
Local residents commented,
“I left Sydney Feb. ’08 for a piece of Paradise, please don’t follow behind me and ruin this beautiful area”, and, “I strongly urge you to reconsider your Ralphs Bay proposal. The community WILL NOT allow this to proceed. I recommend that you cancel this project now before any further money is wasted on a proposal that is dead in
the water.”
Another local wrote,
“In addition to being environmentally destructive, I believe that the proposed development in Ralphs Bay would not be economically successful in this climate and location. I hope that you will reconsider.”
Local children joined in the postcard writing, with comments such as, “The thought of putting houses on that bay is AWFUL! So leave it alone, leave the cute spotted handfish and the awesome oystercatchers alone. I LOVE RALPHS BAY.”
“It is to be hoped that Lang Walker will get to see these sincere appeals, but whether he will heed them is another matter,” said Save Ralphs Bay Chair, Bill Edmunds. “We are continuing with our preparations for a long battle in the RPDC, but it would certainly be a great Christmas present for the Lauderdale community if Mr. Walker gave up on this ridiculous proposal for a Gold Coast style canal estate in a chilly wind tunnel.”
