Opinion
Fascist Benedict
Julian Punch
This message of hatred by the Pope will be used as an excuse for increased hate crime against same sex couples in every neighbourhood by those extreme neo fascist elements in the community that share the Popes same philosophy. Worse it will destroy any element of self worth and appreciation of God’s love by those born into this particular section of a sexually diverse creation. Not only will hate crime be encouraged but self- destruction and lack of self-esteem will be a primary product of this message of the Pope.
Letter to Mercury (Unpublished)
EVER YEAR at this wonderful time of celebrating the universality, simplicity and diversity of love someone throws division and hatred into the world. The Popes message to his household this year of hatred and vilification of that significant part of gods creation who express sexual and gender diversity is totally abhorrent and to be actively rejected by all ‘people of good will’. To be silent, to acquiesce is to be complicit in this fascist message of hate and war on an important part of humanity.
This message of hatred by the Pope will be used as an excuse for increased hate crime against same sex couples in every neighbourhood by those extreme neo fascist elements in the community that share the Popes same philosophy. Benedict’s message calling for extinction of those people who as part of a sexual and gender diverse creation express active love for their same sex partners is abhorrent. Finally Benedict has named his philosophy as ‘fascist fundamentalism’ so similar to that of Hitler and the Nazi regime. The Popes form of determinism, which calls for the annihilation of an important minority group, calls for a strong community response by way of a financial and moral embargo on any local institution that the Pope directly or indirectly leads. How could parents of children who are gay, lesbian, transgender or transsexual suffer their children to be educated by a Catholic school that espouses the leadership and philosophy of the Pope? How could anybody of good will support in any way Catholic institutions of care that are bound to enact or hold to this immoral instruction and direction by the Pope. Most importantly local Catholic clergy and laity (gay and heterosexual) are bound to reject this particular ‘philosophy of hate’ on moral grounds. The choice to following the Quislings or Dietrich Bonhoeffer is now the stark moral question for Catholics in a sharply divided church.
Yours faithfully
