Degree of separation, Extraordinary

All that this demonstrates is that Nick McKim does not understand the degree of separation that exists between the state treasury, and Forestry Tasmania, which, while being a Government Business Enterprise, has its own Board and corporate structure, and is a corporation in its own right, and can make its own commercial decisions, although within legal and statutory parameters.

Absolutely extraordinary. A government agency is effectively merging with a private company, taking all of the public resources it manages with it, without a cent or a by your leave to its bemused public owners. FT has already transferred at least 93,000 ha of state forest to its private freehold ownership. It may be as much as 214,000 ha if the 121,000 ha which disappeared from the state forest in 2000-01 is a separate gambit. None of it seems to be subject to tax, with the privatised land apparently not on the valuation rolls. Read more here, Comment here
