Students Against the Pulp Mill (SAPM) is excited that one of its members, Gabby Forward, has been nominated as a finalist in the Junior Hero category of the news.com.au Green Awards. She has been recognized for campaigning against the Gunns pulp mill in Tasmania and global warming.

Gabby is one of many young people across Tasmania who have been working hard to provide information to the public about the environmental costs of the pulp mill through organising protest rallies, publishing an anti-pulp mill zine and talking to other young people.

“The pulp mill will have a significant contribution to climate change, which is one of the reasons people my age know that it cannot go ahead. The Australian government needs to put a stop to this mill if they are serious about stopping climate change”, said Gabby.

Gabby was one of two young people who spoke at the August 23 anti-pulp mill rally in Launceston where she highlighted the important role young people can play in environmental campaigns.

Josh Van Der Vlist, another member of SAPM, said that, “This nomination shows the broad opposition to the Gunns pulp mill that is felt throughout Australia. All the members of Students Against the Pulp Mill will continue campaigning until the pulp mill is completely dead.”

This award will be decided through an online poll, and SAPM is encouraging everyone to go to news.com.au and vote for Gabby.
