Gorge: Climate change flying fox

Posted on

Bob McMahon Bob McMahon of Tasmanians Against the Pulpmill, will be delivering the Get-Up Climate Change Torch via a spectacular flying fox strung across the Cataract Gorge on Wednesday 20th at 1.00pm.

“Government, through its actions and policies, is the biggest instigator of climate change in this country. In Tasmania, the government could do a whole lot about reducing our impact on climate and the most obvious is to radically reform how we manage our forests”, said McMahon. “Clearfell, chipping and burning is ripping the lungs out of the earth. Before we can even begin to change the mentality of Forestry Tasmania it is crucial we get rid of the old guard in that organization and replace them with enlightened foresters.” Bob Gordon, the head of Forestry was a Lennon political appointment and Lennon’s chief propagandist on the Pulp Mill Task Force. While Gordon and the upper echelons of FT stay in place there is little hope for a new start in forest management in Tasmania,” he concluded.

Spectacular delivery of Get-Up Climate Change Torch.

Bob McMahon of Tasmanians Against the Pulpmill, will be delivering the Get-Up Climate Change Torch via a spectacular flying fox strung across the Cataract Gorge on Wednesday 20th at 1.00pm.

“The speed with which the Climate Change Torch is delivered across the Cataract Gorge symbolizes the speed with which climate change is occurring,” said Bob McMahon.

Powered purely by gravity, McMahon will hurtle across a high rope strung across the Gorge from the Zig-Zag Track side down to the Tourist Path on the other side.

“Government, through its actions and policies, is the biggest instigator of climate change in this country. In Tasmania, the government could do a whole lot about reducing our impact on climate
and the most obvious is to radically reform how we manage our forests”, said McMahon.

“Clearfell, chipping and burning is ripping the lungs out of the earth. Before we can even begin to change the mentality of Forestry Tasmania it is crucial we get rid of the old guard in that organization and replace them with enlightened foresters.”

Bob Gordon, the head of Forestry was a Lennon political appointment and Lennon’s chief propagandist on the Pulp Mill Task Force. While Gordon and the upper echelons of FT stay in place there is little hope for a new start in forest management in Tasmania,” he concluded.

To view the flight of the Get-Up Torch, walk about 100 metres along the Tourist Path from the Kings Bridge (Gorge Rd) end of the Cataract Gorge.
