Richard C. Butler
Attached is an image of a man who would not be photographed for fear of being assaulted. I accepted his explanation and produced the image below. Im sending it into Tasmanian Times – as a reminder to all who read this page that a young man was brutally assualted in Lilydale last week for allegedly errecting a sign that opposed forestry practice in Lilydale.
I thought I’d write and provide an update on the photographic portrait project. This is the one where I’m producing beautiful quality images of people against the proposed chemical plant, the current rogue forestry practices, the issue of poisons in the water supply, the beekeepers’ loss of stock, and all the other foul and rancid practices supported by the current government and those jellyback liberals who call themselves ‘the opposition’.
The term ‘liberal opposition’ is an underwhelming concept.
Anyway – I have had the privilege and honor to meet and photograph over 300 very fine Tasmanian people. So I thought it useful to write and say a big thank you to people like Dave Groves, Jan and George Greig, Fiona Ferguson, Bob and Suzie McMahon, Rod and Jill Wivell, Hilary Burden from the ABC and of course the wonderful and beautiful people of Hillwood and Deviot, and Georgetown and the other areas that people have come from to see us, and share themselves so well.
I don’t believe it possible not to be changed by the experience, and be touched by the stories and the hearts and spirits of those who have come along.
The project is to continue on and the work is good. It fuels energy.
But here is something dark –

I understand that the language of those who speak FOR the mill contains descriptors that are pre-cursors to words like ‘terrorist’ .
When the time comes, and when they find actions that suit their agenda – the word ‘terrorist’ will be used in outrage by pro mill supporters.
But unless we demand it, it wont be used to describe the 3 or 4 the miserable thugs who belted the kid in Lilydale.
THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT AND THE MEDIA MUST SPEAK OUT NOW AGAINST THE LILYDALE ASSAULT.
