Bruny: The other side

My word John, what a hornet’s nest you have stirred up. However, you really have only told half the story and as an apparent principle of the Tasmanian Times is to deal fairly with the issues, I will attempt to provide another side.
Firstly some general matters. While there were many at the meeting who could be described as generally supporting the logging, many others were realists, and accepted that logging would happen, and there was no benefit in getting upset about it. The Forestry Act gives Forestry Tasmania (FT) complete control over State forest, and the responsibility of using Multiple Use Forest Land for timber production. The legislation was enacted by the democratically elected Government of Tasmania and supported by the Liberal opposition, and as there in unlikely to be any change in the foreseeable future we just have to live with it.
