The Extremists
Randall McMurphy
But Im off the point – how insulting it must be to be labelled an extremist. Over 23,000 people have emailed the ANZ bank (all extremists), the Launceston City Council and the greatest majority of the people of Launceston – all extremists. The people of Trevallyn, West Tamar – all extremists and the people on the East Tamar – yep their all extremists too.
IT SEEMS that at any time John Gay and The Scroat want to find some kind of category to slur the integrity of those prepared to stand against the power consuming, drinking water taking, effluent dumping, greenhouse gas emitting, tree consuming mill proposed by the Gunns board, the Gunns executive and the Gunns shareholders – they refer to them as an extremist minority.
Ah – they’ve been given a PR ‘key message’ !! (use the extremist word).
One wonders if either have got any form of Public Relations strategy at all – in fact, this whole issue of Public Relations has been appallingly managed by both the government AND Gunns – both who are their own PR liability. The greatest challenge for any PR Firm would be to have to tell their clients that they themselves are a major part of the issue. Integrity transplants are still a rare operation on plant earth, and few firms would want to pick up the brief to manage either. I mean, why bring ones business into disrepute by association even if you are paid to do so..

Georgetown – and the Georgetown council in partcular – nope – theyre not extremists either. The Premier just cant wait to dump Georgetown’s effluent (or was it affluent as John Gay so often calls
it) into the taxpayer funded pipeline that is likely to run across forcibly acquired state government land. Now that’s not an extremist action is it ? If it happens we wont have seen that kind of moderate
behaviour since Germany in the late 1930s.
Just like assigning 1.2 million cubic meters of forest timber to a private company each year, for an entire generation, just like fining the extremist public of burning off in their back yard, but allowing
Gunns to literally smoke the Tamar valley from their kilns each night under darkness. – Nope thats all perfectly moderate.
