Peter Cundall, the host of ABC’s Gardening Australia has today claimed that Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull told him he “hated” the Gunn’s Pulp Mill proposal, despite only weeks later approving its construction. The ABC this afternoon reported Mr Cundall’s comments, in which he claims Mr Turnbull approached the gardening expert at this years Gardening Show in Sydney. Mr Cundall said that the Environment Minister had specifically said he “hated” the proposal, and expressed fear over the damage it was doing to him in his eastern Sydney seat of Wentworth. “I also think that when he said, ‘Oh Peter, Peter I just want you to know I hate this so-and-so mill, I hate it,’ he was also I think extremely concerned about the effect it was having on his own campaign in Wentworth.” Mr Cundall said. Mr Turnbull however refuted the claim, saying he did criticize the Tasmanian Government’s fast-track assessment process, but had not expressed an emotional view over its construction.
