Miotti: the guidelines failure
Terry Martin The National Interest, ABC
Terry Martin: So I chose to seek out the advice of the engineering scientist, Dr Roberto Miotti, who was the project manager for the development of the guidelines, and I actually arranged for him to do a peer review of the assessment. And that was quite illuminating; I mean, this is the man who was project manager for the development of the guidelines – no-one knows them better. Whereas the official assessment on behalf of the government showed that of the 100 guidelines, the project failed in eight of them, but that they could be overcome by permit conditions, Dr Miotti, who did the peer review – I again stress the fact that no-one knows these guidelines better than the doctor – he assessed that there were 13 guidelines that were not met by the project, but most importantly that out of those 13, six of them could not be overcome by permit conditions. So, accordingly, I believe the project doesn’t meet the guidelines that were set down and should not have been approved.
