PULP MILL PUBLIC MEETING – SUNDAY, 14TH OCTOBER, BONDI PAVILION
SCIENTISTS ADDRESS UNANSWERED QUESTIONS FROM PULP MILL ASSESSMENT
A public meeting to be held this weekend in Sydney will feature scientific experts and climate change campaigners. It will be the first opportunity for the public to have outstanding questions answered in the wake of the federal government’s approval of Gunns’ controversial pulp mill project.
Speakers for the meeting include:
Dr. Warwick Raverty:
Dr Raverty is a pulp and paper scientist and was a member of the original pulp mill assessment body, the RPDC’s pulp mill assessment panel. He resigned in early 2007. He has since been critical of the state assessment process, location of the mill and behaviour of key players in the pulp mill’s development.
Danielle Ecuyer – President, Women for Change Alliance:
Danielle has been a high profile Sydney based campaigner on climate change and the pulp mill. She has just returned from a tour of Tasmania, meeting with community members, touring the forests and visiting the pulp mill site. While in Tasmania she launched a campaign targeting Gunns’ bankers, the ANZ.
Dr. James Watson – Ecologist and climate change scientist:
Dr Watson is a consultant ecologist who has closely studied the impact of logging on forest conservation values, biodiversity and climate change.
Dr. Thomas Moore – Science advisor, Surfrider Foundation Australia:
Dr Moore is an oceanographer and member of the Surfrider Foundation’s Northern Tasmania Branch. He has worked hard on the Surfrider Foundation’s submissions to the abandoned RPDC assessment process and has informed knowledge of the marine environment and anticipated impacts of pulp mill pollutants.
Vica Bayley – The Wilderness Society
Vica will address the unassessed issue of logging to feed the pulp mill and highlight other social, environmental and economic impacts anticipated to be caused by the pulp mill.
PULP MILL PUBLIC MEETING:
WHERE: High Tide Room, Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach,
WHEN: Sunday 14th October, 12 Noon.
