Legal action against Turnbull, Gunns
Geoff Law
The Wilderness Society today launched a legal challenge in the Federal Court against the Federal Government’s assessment of Gunns’ proposed pulp mill.
The action was filed today in the Hobart office of the Federal Court. It names federal Environment Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, and Gunns as the two respondents.
The action seeks to overturn a decision by Mr Turnbull in which he allowed Gunns to remove its pulp-mill proposal from a comprehensive inquiry in March. Mr Turnbull is now allowing the pulp-mill proposal to undergo a much less rigorous assessment. The Wilderness Society argues that this violates the Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act.
