The Faeroe sex decision

The Parliament of the Faeroe Islands (a semi-autonomous Danish dependency) has voted to ban discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.

Last month the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group wrote to Crown Princess Mary of Denmark in response to reports of gay-bashing in the Faeroes, calling on her to become an ambassador for the social and economic benefits which have flowed to Tasmania since its shed its reputation for homophobia and passed ground-breaking human rights laws.

TGLRG spokesperson Rodney Croome said, “My hope is that anti-discrimination law reform in Faeroes heralds not only further reform in areas like same-sex couple rights, but a new era in Faeroe history characterised by acceptance of diversity and the return of at least some of the Faeroes’ gay exiles.”
