Help Kenyi
ON Saturday 22nd April Hobart United are trying to raise some money for one of their players who needs $5000 by May 2nd for a visa to stop his deportation.
Very briefly: Kenyi Emmanueli is one of the stars of Hobart United (the soccer team formed from the Tassie African immigrant community) and is originally from war torn Sudan.
When he was 11 he managed to escape across the border to Uganda; where he lived as an orphan in a refugee camp for a decade, there he met his wife, and was eventually granted a refugee visa for Canada. However, she was granted humanitarian immigration to Australia, they now have a child and Kenyi is here — but on a visa that will run out soon.
The club is donating all its gate receipts from Saturdays soccer match and are also hoping that there will be music and other activities as well as the game.
If you can come that would be great (bring some friends) or if you can’t make it and can help in any other way/ make a donation/ raise some funds then call the club president Romilton on 0407 750 062.
The match: 22nd April, Pontville Oval, Brighton, 1pm.
