It is understood the Vernons will pay timber giant Gunns about $200,000 from their $2.21 million sale cheque to compensate the logging company for its preparation of harvest plans, road engineering works and foregone timber revenue. Gunns confirmed last night it had concluded “satisfactory commercial arrangements with the landowners”.
Has the Government paid out Gunns: Right on the money … well the taxpayer funds are going to Gunns via a detour to the Vernons. Still the same result. Taxpayer money to the Big-End-of-Town special mates who really, really need it. It was ever thus.
Then there’s the $300,000 of taxpayers’ money to be used for remedial action on a road through a conservation area to the proposed logging site that never should have been allowed in the first place. Oh heavens, Hag despairs of the “leadership” of this visionless hide-bound Hairy Mammoth extinct species.
