Announcement – Volunteering Tasmania, 19 June 2024

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Tasmanian Volunteering Awards!

With 332,100 Tasmanians contributing a staggering 89.4 million hours to their communities through volunteering, it’s time to make their incredible contributions visible for the whole state to see.

People volunteer to help others, for enjoyment, and for social and community connection. Now, we introduce the new Tasmanian Volunteering Award categories, nationally consistent and available to volunteers of all industries.

Nominations are open from the 19th June to 14th August. The Tasmanian Volunteer Awards will be held on the 13th November at Government House.

Award Categories:

  1. The Premier’s Volunteer of the Year Award: Presented in honour of an individual who has made an exemplary positive impact towards the wellbeing of Tasmania, through volunteering.
  2. Tasmanian Youth Volunteer of the Year Award: An individual, team or group (aged 12-25) whose volunteering contributions have made a significant positive impact on their community.
  3. Inclusive Volunteering Award: Recognises an individual, team or organisation who have demonstrated active commitment to inclusive practices and behaviours by reducing and removing barriers to volunteer participation.
  4. Volunteer Impact Award (Corporate/Partnerships): Presented in recognition of a for-profit organisation that has made a positive, measurable and sustainable social and/or economic impact on the Tasmanian community through volunteering.
  5. Excellence in Volunteer Leadership and Management Award: Recognises a volunteer manager, coordinator, or leader for their outstanding contribution to the profession.
  6. Volunteer Impact Award (Individual): Celebrates an individual whose volunteering has made a remarkable difference for people, a community, group, organisation, or cause in Tasmania over the past year.
  7. Volunteer Impact Award (Group): Presented in recognition of a community group or community-led program that have provided important local services, led positive change, or supported significant improvements and benefits in the community.
  8. Lifetime Commitment Award: Honours a dedicated and passionate individual who have a sustained and substantial record of volunteer commitment to a community, group, organisation, or cause in Tasmania.
