“It is with great sadness that I learned today of the passing of a Tasmanian political giant, the Honourable Michael Hodgman QC, a long-time member for Denison in both federal and state parliaments, a former federal minister and respected Queens Counsel.
“Michael Hodgman sat as the member for Denison for his beloved Liberal Party in either federal or state parliament for over two decades finally retiring in 2008, a truly remarkable contribution to public life.
“People in Denison talk with fondness of and respect for Michael Hodgman.
“It seems he knew every voter, all by name, all their children and which football team they supported.
“Michael enjoyed life, genuinely cared about people and loved his state of Tasmania with a passion.
“His contribution to our society has been considerable and he will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathy to his family for the loss of a great man.”
