COVID Cases Detected in Southern Hospitals
Media release – Dale Webster, Acting State Health Commander29 April 2022
Cases detected in Southern hospital settings
Three patients have tested positive for COVID-19 across two hospital settings in the state’s South.
Two patients have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Repatriation Hospital in Hobart, while another has tested positive at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The cases have been detected in non-COVID medical wards. All three patients have now been transferred to a designated COVID ward at the RHH.
Southern Regional Health Commander Dr Stephen Ayre has convened an Incident Management Group to manage the cases and conduct contact tracing.
All other patients on the involved wards are being tested. Contact tracing is also being undertaken with patients and staff.
Patients will continue to be monitored for symptoms over the next five to seven days with testing as advised by the Incident Management Group.
The wards are closed to non-COVID admissions and visitors until further notice, except on compassionate grounds, while the outbreak is managed.
The Incident Management Group will continue to meet regularly to monitor the situation and respond as appropriate.
Members of the public should be reassured that it is safe to attend the RHH and Repatriation Hospital as required. While the incident has affected one ward in each facility, all other areas of the hospitals continue to operate.
