Forestry Women in Leadership Scholarship Winners Announced

IWD 2022: Women in Leadership Scholarship winners announced

After it was inundated with high-quality applications for its two Women in Leadership Scholarships recently, the Tasmanian Forests and Forest Products Network has decided to extend its offering, awarding scholarships to three women working in the Tasmanian forest industry, to further establish their leadership skills.

Scholarship recipients, Bonnie Galbraith (Timberlands Pacific), Amanda Sharman (CLTP Tasmania) and Carmen Windsor (Sustainable Timber Tasmania) will complete the AICD Foundations of Directorship Online Course this year; a structured 11-week program that combines virtual classroom sessions, online learning activities and individual study with support from a team of experienced faculty members. Topics covered by the program include Governance for Directors, Finance for Directors and Strategy and Risk for Directors.

Proud recipient, Carmen Windsor said the scholarship presents an opportunity to strengthen her knowledge and offers support in defining a future leadership pathway to further establish her career in the forest industry.

“I feel incredibly privileged to be a recipient of this scholarship and sincerely thank the TFFPN for supporting my leadership journey,” Ms Windsor said.

“I have seen and experienced firsthand the need to attract, retain and support women in Tasmania’s forest industry.

“As a woman working in the forest industry, I have a role to help drive this change and remain committed to harnessing my passion and enthusiasm to help support women to succeed.”

Network Convenor, Therese Taylor, said it was most fitting that on International Women’s Day—a global day which celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women—the TFFPN celebrates the ambition and achievement of these three women, but also highlights the significant work of all women working in the state’s forests and forest products industries.

“While women currently only make up 16 per cent of the forestry workforce in Tasmania, their contribution to the industry is immeasurable,” Ms Taylor said.

“The Network is currently developing a Diversity Action Plan for the sector, which aims to increase the number of women working in forestry, as well as other underrepresented groups, to ensure our workforce is truly representative of our community,” she said.
