AJP TO WALK FOR THE ANIMALS 345K FROM NORTH TO SOUTH OF TASMANIA
Candidate for The Animal Justice Party (AJP) Ivan Davis has challenged himself to walk 345 kilometres from Somerset in the north of Tasmania to Hobart Parliament Lawns, carrying a banner to raise awareness about animal issues.
“I’m walking for the animals to help Tasmanians be aware that there is a political party for them to vote for if they want to give animals and the environment a powerful voice in parliament,” Ivan Davis said.
The Claremont-based AJP candidate will start his ‘Walk For The Animals’ from the Somerset Surf Lifesaving Club on Saturday 23 at 11:30am. The route will then take him through towns such as Ulverstone, Perth, Campbelltown, Ross and Bridgewater, before reaching the finish line a week later on Saturday 30 October at the Hobart Parliament Lawns.
Ivan Davis has been practicing for months prior to the walk, as the tight schedule requires him to be able to travel between 30 and 60 kilometres per day:
“I’m used to going for long bush walks enjoying the native wildlife along the way. But this time I’m not expecting it to be as enjoyable, as much of the route will be alongside cars and trucks on main roads and highways,” Ivan Davis said.
Although the end justifies the means, Ivan Davis believes, if he can inspire people passing by him with the banner to remember the animals when they enter the voting booth at the next election.
“Tasmanians are outraged about the systematic mistreatment of animals in factory farming, the amount of road kill carnage we are witnessing, and the rapid loss of species and biodiversity in our unique part of the world. The AJP agrees this situation is an outrage and we are here; ready to pull up our sleeves in parliament and work for a kinder world for animals and the natural environment that they, and we humans, all depend upon,” Ivan Davis said.
