Burnie Pizza Bandit Arrested

Police arrested a 20-year-old man on Sunday for armed robbery of a pizza shop. They captured the Burnie man at 11am following a search at a residential property in the town.

He was later charged with breach of bail and armed robbery of a Dominos pizza delivery driver on Friday 4 September 2020.

He appeared at the Burnie Magistrates Court in an out of hours court sitting on Sunday evening.

Police allege the armed robbery occurred about 11.00 pm on Friday.

A a 31-year-old woman who was delivering pizzas for Domino’s in View Road at Burnie was approached by a younger male who was holding a knife. The male allegedly assaulted the victim whilst demanding cash from her. The male stole a quantity of cash and the pizzas from the victim before running off.

The victim was not injured as a result of the assault. The assailant wore a black balaclava during the attack.

Members from Burnie uniform attended the scene and the subsequent investigations resulted in the arrest on Sunday.

Police would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident. Burnie CIB would like to thank the members of the public who assisted with the investigation.
