The Briefing … More police violence footage emerges

Footage has emerged of a Victoria Police officer violently manhandling an Indigenous man in a Bendigo holding cell.
The footage of the 2015 incident, published by The Age, shows 23-year-old Jia Meeks being thrown into a metal door and being kicked while unconscious. The footage also contradicts police claims that Meeks tried to headbutt the officer. Human Rights Law Centre executive director Hugh de Kretser called on the Victorian government to establish an independent body to investigate police complaints, saying “investigations into serious police misconduct must be independent and effective” …
