The Briefing … Australian airstrike likely killed newlyweds

A newlywed couple were killed by an Australian airstrike on the Iraqi city of Mosul in 2017, according to the Australian Defence Force.

Deputy chief of operations Major General Greg Bilton said “two thorough investigations” had concluded that “based on the balance of probabilities, our strike resulted in the death of two people and the injury of two others”. The 27-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, who wed only 20 days earlier, were killed on May 3 in a Royal Australian Air Force airstrike on a building in Mosul’s al Islah al Zirae neighbourhood
