The China Shadow over Tasmania

Looks can deceive.
The grandfatherly leader of China, Xi Jinping, is now stepping into the shoes of a full-blown dictator for life, spelt out with insight by Stan Grant. [1]
What does this have to do with the Tasmanian election?
Grant observes, “Mr Xi despises weakness and he has a long memory.”
A war between the United States and China has been long predicted as inevitable, with comparisons to World War I, but there is one really big difference.
Both China and the United States bristle with nuclear weapons, and there has never yet been a war between major powers with nuclear weapons, when all options would be on the table.
I explored how such a war could play out, very swiftly, to the verge of all-out nuclear madness, run to a long designed plan, and I could see Australia as being a rather big loser in the peace deal that followed. [2]
With China rising, the world will not stay the same, and either Australia will be forced into the Chinese sphere of influence, this land will be occupied by China, or if nuclear madness breaks out and goes all the way, there may be no future for life on Earth.
How can we find a future with peace included, and remain a free nation?
We cannot rely on the United States, when push comes to shove, and the American people are faced with a choice of losing the lot in an all-out nuclear war, or allowing China to occupy DownUnder.
Remember when we were working with the Dutch for the independence of the whole island of New Guinea, when in 1963 the United States told Holland to get out, Australia to butt out, and arranged for an Indonesian takeover of West Papua, a territory the size of France with a Papuan population that have lived in that land for as long as Aborigines have lived in Australia?
The Papuans were used like so many slaves by Washington to buy a pro-Western peace with Jakarta.
It was a really big slave trade, and we went along with that.
Are we really safe under the American nuclear umbrella?
As Tasmanian politicans fight over gambling machines and throwing money at a tunnel under the road in Campbell Town, the political reality is sailing by unseen.
If candidates and voters would like to wake up and realise that the next big mining boom will be in space, and it is on the cusp of happening, then there will be a hint of where our liberty lies.
If we value freedom, every Tasmanian politician will swat up on the current state of space development, and understand how Tasmania can play an active and vibrant role in the global space industry.
Now Australia has a Space Agency, we have a new window of opportunity to create work, build exciting careers, and launch new enterprises, because we can.
If Bob Clifford can build ships for the world and service them from Tasmania, what is holding us back?
There are a million possibilities, if we will dare to imagine, and if we have the courage to work.
Tasmanian enthusiasm for space will inspire the whole nation to lift the game to the high frontier.
Mining asteroids and mining on the Moon will lead to industry in space, and also to orbital space settlements. [3]
If Australia is a player in the high frontier, we will become a much more advanced, stronger, and wealthier nation.
We will be able to design a stellar economy for our citizens, where there is no poverty or homelessness.
We can start making this future happen now on Earth.
Like the Eureka miners, we can look to the stars of the Southern Cross and see freedom.
By rising to the high frontier, we can work with China to achieve their dreams in space as well, and that is what will keep China from occupying Australia to access our resources.
Space is the only sure way that we can fight for our freedom.
Every politician, every candidate, and every voter, can consider a future with freedom.
To be free, we need to wake up to space and reach to the stars.
In my document, Rising to the Challenge, I explore how ordinary citizens can act on a vision for space. [4]
Following this election, whether elected or not, I will be pursuing the TasSpace concept that I have raised during this election and taken on the campaign trail. [5]
There are times when citizens need to lead by example, and politicians will follow.

ABOUT KIM PEART ~ In 2007 Kim was listed among Tasmania’s top 200 movers and shakers for “An urban bushland conservationist who has worked tirelessly over the years to maintain walking tracks and protect wildlife from the encroachment of bush-front housing developments.” Kim is campaigning for an Australian Convict Trail, with the Tasmanian leg running from the ferry in Devonport to Port Arthur, along with foot and cycle paths by Tasmania’s highways and roads. After being at the launch of an Australian Space Agency last September, Kim is seeking ways to create employment, careers and new enterprise in Tasmania with the global space industry.
