Tas residents set to spend big on toys and games this Christmas
Tasmanian residents are set to spend $1,192 on toys and games, clothing, alcohol, gift cards and electronics this
festive season, according to Ferratum Group’s Christmas Barometer™ – a global survey that reviews consumers‘
spending behaviours during the holidays.
Forecasted to spend 22 percent of their average monthly incomei on Christmas-related purchases, TAS residents
are expected to be the lowest spenders across the country. On the other end of the scale, ACT consumers are
expected to be the country’s biggest spenders with an estimated spend of $1,563.
Ferratum Country Manager – Australia James Logan said with just two weeks until Christmas, the holiday
shopping season is in full swing.
“When it comes to holiday spending, on a global scale, we’re up there as a nation of big spenders and just like
Swedish, UK and Estonian consumers, we spend most on toys and games followed by clothing.
“Surprisingly, unlike European consumers, who will be turning to online shopping as their preferred method of
shopping, this Christmas, 75 percent of Aussies are expected to get the tills ringing the traditional way by
visiting brick and mortar shops.“
Proving to be digitally savvy, 91 percent of Australian survey respondents will be using mobile banking – taking
the crown for managing finances on the go globally.
“With the rise of the adoption of pay and wave, it’s no surprise that more than 59 percent of Aussie respondents
prefer card payments over cash this holiday trading period,“ Mr Logan said.
