IGA donates $50,000 to local charities to share the spirit of Christmas
While most look forward to the chance to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones, it can be a particularly stressful time of year for disadvantaged members of the Tasmanian community.
IGA Supermarkets Tasmania (IGA) has donated $50,000 in IGA Food Cards to help several Tasmanian welfare agencies put food on the tables of the less fortunate this Christmas.
CEO of Tasmanian Independent Retailers and IGA stores representative, Grant Hinchcliffe said he was pleased to once again support these valuable Tasmanian community organisations, who work tirelessly to provide some relief for those doing it tough during the festive season.
“These donations are just one of the ways IGA assists the Tasmanian community throughout each year. All of the 81 IGA outlets throughout Tasmania are extremely proud to show their support in what is believed to be one of the largest public giving campaigns in Tasmania,” said Mr Hinchcliffe.
“$50,000 worth of IGA Food Cards have been donated and distributed to Tasmanian charitable organisations to support the vital work they do for those in need of food, warmth and shelter across Tasmania.”
With this round of donations, IGA’s community support for 2017 has reached approximately $160,000 and includes donations to Give Me 5 For Kids, Make-A-Wish, Pollie Pedal, Cancer Council Tasmania, Launceston Tornadoes, Northern Tasmania Junior Football Association and Launceston Football Club, as well as support provided via CEO Sleepout.
Despite a continuing tight economy and increased rivalry from larger supermarket chains, Mr Hinchcliffe said IGA was committed to supporting local charities, as well as other organisations.
Since 2010, IGA has donated approximately $1.4 million to local charities, support agencies and sporting organisations.
