Further reductions in full-time Tasmanian jobs

Posted on

 Government fails to acknowledge alarming trend
 2,000 Tasmanians out of full-time employment since June
The latest employment figures unfortunately show Tasmania is in another slump when it comes to full-time jobs.
“After recovering early in 2017, we’ve again gone backwards at a rapid rate,” Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said.
“We have lost 2,000 full-time jobs since June.
“That’s an alarming trend which the Government has failed to even acknowledge.
“The Liberals can’t talk up the bright spots in Tasmania’s economy and ignore the challenges.
“The trend towards part-time and casual work is alarming.
“Labor is determined to work with industry sectors to identify the barriers to employers taking on Tasmanians full-time.
“We will establish eight Industry Advisory Councils to address workforce requirements and identify what government needs to do to support full-time employment growth.
“I challenge Peter Gutwein to acknowledge the reduction in full-time jobs and address what can be done about it.
“No one expects the Treasurer to have a silver bullet solution but his ongoing denials treat Tasmanians with disrespect.”
