Papua New Guinea’s Supreme Court has rejected an application to restore power, water, health services and food supplies to the Manus Island detention centre.

More than 600 men who refuse to leave the centre have been without basic services for a week, and have resorted to digging wells and collecting rainwater. In the Supreme Court ruling, PNG Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia said the Court was satisfied the “alternative accommodation” provided by the Australian and PNG governments was “of good standard”, despite the United Nations High Commission on Refugees warning the alternative sites were not ready.
