Roger Corbin: One of the greats …
On Tuesday afternoon there was a tragic helicopter accident at Hobart Airport. The accident resulted in the death of one of the state’s aviation greats, Roger Corbin of Rotorlift and the hospitalisation of Osborne Aviation pilot and managing director, John Osborne while they were on a training flight.
At the time of the incident, Mr Osborne, was undertaking flight training instruction from Mr Corbin on the AS350 aircraft type. We do not have further information about what led to the accident, which is subject to an investigation.
It is bitter-sweet to report that Mr Osborne is recovering well and has now been discharged from hospital. He is pleased to be home and in the company of family and friends.
Mr Corbin was a man that Osborne Aviation has had a long involvement with over the past 20 years for regular training requirements, and a pilot for whom we had utmost respect. The Tasmanian aviation industry is a small, tight knit community, with our company and the Tasmanian industry reeling from this loss. We extend our deepest sympathy to Mr Corbin’s family, friends and colleagues.
Osborne Aviation and Osborne Heli Tours are continuing with normal operations from its bases in Port Arthur and Stanley.
