End of the week sees a return to winter weather
A cold front approaching from the west of the state on Friday afternoon will see
snow levels fall to around 800 metres in the north and 500–600 metres in the
south.
A Bushwalkers Weather Alert has been issued for Friday due to snow and
hazardous conditions in the Western and Central Plateau districts.
A cold southwesterly airflow will see average daytime temperatures peak at 14‐
16 degrees for city centres, overnight temperatures dropping to near zero
through the north, central areas and upper Derwent Valley.
Low rainfall totals are expected with the highest totals forecast for the west and
south of around 10–15mm, possibly up to 20mm in elevated areas in the west.
Small hail is possible across the state.
A second cold front will cross on Saturday morning seeing a continuation of the
cooler temperatures, but snow levels will rise to 1,000 metres in the north and
600–700 metres in the south.
A road weather alert may be issued later today due to snow and possible frost
conditions into the weekend.
The colder conditions may warrant further warnings.
