SFFPT does not support the State Liberal Government takeover of TasWater

Posted on

The attempted takeover of TasWater by Treasurer Gutwein and the State Liberal Government should be seen for what it is, money grab from communities to fund the big end of town, will result fewer full time employment. And no doubt it’s a Liberal government push for council amalgamations by stealth.
SFFP Pembroke candidate Carlo Di Falco said “Mr Gutwein’s attitude is seen by many as elitist and out of touch with everyday reality”.
“We, the shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party Tasmania calls on the government to release it’s 10 year tariff pricing modelling for public scrutiny, as we fail to see how water and sewerage charges will remain lower and that the TasWater would not be burdened with unacceptable high levels of debt”.
Regional economies are often dependent on the direct and indirect employment and community services that councils provide, and removing TasWater from ratepayers control would be an economical disaster for regional communities. If the government really believes that more investment is required, then simply offer up more grant funding to assist.
Already we see the State Government mismanagement of the Hobart hospital refurbishment, poor regional road investment, poor preventative health funding and now they want to ”steal” more ratepayers funds, to shore up their mess and to help fund their next white elephant , the Macquarie Harbour sewerage treatment plant project.
SFFP Tasmania call on all legislative council members to block the government’s attempt for a hostile takeover of TasWater, it is not in line with community expectations and will not deliver long term financial benefits to regional communities nor rate payers
