Private Forest sector rebounding strongly under Liberal Government

Posted on

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a proud supporter of Tasmania’s forest industry and the thousands of jobs it supports across the State from harvesting to manufacturing.
Today I tabled the annual report for Private Forests Tasmania, which shows that under us, private forestry has continued to rebound strongly after the disasters of the Labor-Green Government.
The report shows there has been a 32 per cent increase in private forest production to 3.89 million tonnes, which is the highest production from private forests since PFT started recording figures in 1994/95.
The annual report also shows:
• Private estate’s share of production is now 73 per cent – up from 58 per cent from two years ago.
• Hardwood plantation production is up 37 per cent to 2.46 million tonnes.
• Softwood harvest is up 30 per cent to 1.27 million tonnes.
These results show that the Hodgman Liberal Government’s Plan to support and re-establish the forestry industry as an important economic industry is working.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is Building Your Future, and we have returned confidence and jobs to Tasmania’s forestry industry.
