Liberals running scared on TasWater takeover
Government delays TasWater vote to avoid defeat
Strong sign even the Liberals don’t believe what they’re selling
New Pembroke candidate voted against the takeover
Shadow Local Government Minister Madeleine Ogilvie said it’s obvious the Government is very nervous.
“The Liberals have not convinced Tasmanians that their hostile takeover of TasWater is in the community’s best interest.” Ms Ogilvie said.
“Tasmanians are smart enough to know when they’re being sold a pup, and that’s exactly what Peter Gutwein is doing.
“The Government wants the Pembroke election to be a referendum on TasWater but even their own candidate is so apathetic about the policy he was willing to change his stance with the political breeze.
“James Walker voted against the takeover when the issue was put to Clarence Council, now he’s claiming a chance of heart. How convenient.
“After four long years in government, the Liberals have failed to gain traction with any meaningful reform.
“The wheels are falling off and the Government is desperate to save face. Putting the TasWater bill on the long finger is probably their least worst option at this stage.”
