Lambie’s forbidden political fruit tempts Adam
Rogue Liberal backbencher flirts with the idea of jumping ship
Was Adam Brooks eyeing off a Senate seat?
Premier will want to know how close his MP came to defecting
There’s no doubt that rogue Liberal backbencher Adam Brooks will be getting a phone call from the Premier after The Advocate* revealed he flirted with the idea of jumping ship to Jacqui Lambie’s political party.
Braddon MP Shane Broad said it’s another sign that Mr Brooks is a lone ranger.
“The Senator has confirmed that Adam Brooks “very loosely” entertained the idea of quitting the Liberals to join her party,” Dr Broad said.
“According to Senator Lambie, the defection was canvassed prior to the Mr Brooks becoming a minister.
“So you had Mr Brooks, disgruntled that he wasn’t rewarded with a ministry after a big vote in Braddon, openly exploring his political options.
“There’s no doubt the Premier will be on the phone today asking for a please explain.
“Perhaps the Advocate has uncovered another reason the Government is reluctant to audit Mr Brooks’ email account. Was the possible defection negotiated via email?
“The timeline indicates Mr Brooks was being groomed for the spot on the Senate ticket eventually filled by Devonport Mayor Steve Martin.
“Will the Premier just stand by and let his backbenchers flirt with the idea of jumping ship?”
