It’s not too late to vote YES for marriage equality
Survey form drop-off points throughout the State
Hobart to be lit in rainbow colours to remind voters it’s not too late
As the marriage equality survey draws to a close, Tasmanians are being told that it’s not too late to vote “yes” for marriage equality.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics office in Hobart will accept surveys right up until close of business on the final cut-off on Tuesday 7th November.
Rainbow lights will brighten the Hobart night sky during the final week to remind people that the vote is not yet over. Franklin Square Fountain, Railway Roundabout Fountain, Elizabeth St Mall and Kennedy Lane will all be awash with colour in support of marriage equality.
In the north of the State, Tasmanians United for Marriage Equality has arranged drop off points in Launceston, Burnie and Devonport. Surveys received at these points by midday on Friday 3rd November will be express posted to the ABS.
Tasmanians United for Marriage Equality Spokesperson, Rodney Croome, said it was a last ditch effort to get as many supporters across the line as possible.
“We’re appealing to the stragglers out there who, for whatever reason, have not yet made it to the post box. It’s not too late. Your vote is important,” said Mr Croome.
Mr Croome said a late surge of support could help deliver a decisive result in favour of marriage equality and encourage the Government to move quickly to enact legislation.
“Every single “yes” vote is a message to the Government that Australians will not tolerate delays or political games with the fundamental rights of LGBTQI people.”
