Good morning, and welcome to The Briefing.
A group of 25 refugees has left Manus Island for the United States, marking the belated fulfilment of a resettlement deal between Australia and the Obama administration.
The men flew out of Port Moresby yesterday, and will be joined by another group destined for the US from Nauru later this week. A representative of the US Embassy in Papua New Guinea told Guardian Australia that “other refugee cases are under review” and “others will be advanced in the coming months”. The US refuses to say how many Manus and Nauru refugees it will accept, and the fates of who are left behind remains unclear …
