Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party Tasmania call for Fishers Compensation
While SFFP Tasmania support the proposed ban on seal relocations, the fishers should receive compensation.
For far too long this Liberal government and the previous Labor government have turned a blind eye and ignored the damage of their approved seal relocation program. Seal relocations have been conducted over the last 10 years with little to no assistance to impacted fishers on the NW coast.
This recent announcement to ban seal relocations beyond December 25th will be a welcome relief for so many NW commercial and recreational fishers.
However, the damage has been done and it’s time for the Liberal government to acknowledge their previous policy and to offer compensation to those fishers who have lost thousands of dollars in income and in destroyed equipment.
