Mining Kentucky Queens Talent
Country Singer songwriter Amber Joy Poulton looks a lot like Loretta Lyn and so it seems fitting the multi award winner plays the muscian in the producction of Coal Miners Daughter which visits Launceston, Devonport and Hobart in October.
Amber Joy Poulton has visited Tasmania four times in the past, for eclectic reasons, Even though country music is her passion Amber has worked both as a travel agent and a massage therapist. Amber’s musical pedigree is strong with acclaimed singer Julie Anthony her aunty.
While there are many tribute acts that regularly perform around Australia a tribute act to Loretta Lyn is somewhat rarer which is surprising, as Loretta Lyn is considerd the first country music queen. Her personal history is remarkable born one of eight children of a coal miner father who was lost early to lung damage related to his work. Loretta married at 15 and was already a grandmother at the age of 34! Her music was put on hold in the early days of raising her children only to be discovered at the Grand Ole opry by her musical idol. Patsy Cline, who would become her close friend, Patsy Cline when Loretta performed at the Grand Ole Opry.
The story of Loretta’s strong chemistry with fellow country artist Conway Twitty is also explored . The two recorded 11 albums togther, achieving five number ones.
To authenticate Lyn’s look Amber will be wearing all new costumes in this production not to mention an ample use of hairspray to achieve the big and bold country look.
Song highlights from Amber’s point of view include ‘Blue Kentucky Girl’ and of course one of Loretta’s signature songs ‘One’s on the way’.
