Labor to restore security at Hobart Airport after Hodgman and Turnbull cuts

Posted on

• Hodgman Government needs to stand up to Turnbull for Federal presence at airport
• Federal Labor stepping in where Liberals have let Tasmanian security down
• Campaign by Tasmania’s Federal Labor representatives delivers results
Labor Leader Rebecca White has congratulated Bill Shorten on standing up for Tasmania by reinstating Australian Federal Police at Hobart Airport.
“Labor is prepared to step up where the Liberals have badly let Tasmania down,” Ms White said.
“To reinstate 16 Australian Federal Police officers shows Bill Shorten takes our state and Tasmania’s security seriously at the same time Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull does not and Premier Will Hodgman is incapable of standing up to him.
“This is a significant commitment to Tasmania that will bring Hobart in line with other capital cities around Australia.
“The Liberals have completely failed to justify why Tasmania is not entitled to the same level of security and safety arrangements as other states.
“Will Hodgman now must stand up to Malcolm Turnbull and demand that he matches Labor’s commitment immediately.
“The community campaign to bring the AFP back to the airport has been strong and the lobbying of my Federal Labor colleagues has been relentless.
“As State Labor Leader I made it clear to the Federal Leader that this issue was a security priority for our state.
“At the end of the day it’s a matter of fairness that Tasmania is treated the same as other states.
“While the Liberals have neglected Tasmania since the last election, Federal Labor has again demonstrated that the state is best served by Labor governments.”
