Droogs create new mural in Rooke Lane THIS WEEKEND
Sketch of the design to be installed on the backwall of the Sussan store, Rooke Lane
Over the last three months Devonport Regional Gallery’s young members, the Droogs have been working on the design for a new mural in Rooke Lane with Hobart-based artist Megan Walch. The mural is set to be installed across three days in September: 22th – 24th.
The new work will appear on the backwall of the Sussan store, and is inspired by the Robinson Studio and collection of photographs taken by Bert and Albert Robinson from the Devonport area.
“The decision to make the mural in honour of the Robinson family and to bring their story to the public was unanimous. After considering a number of the images from the collection, the interior of the Robinson’s photographic studio was a clear favourite.” Said artist mentor Megan Walch.
“This project allows the Droogs to experience first-hand the practicalities of developing, designing and installing a piece of art work in a public setting. Whilst the Droogs are well known for their work in organizing events and projects, this project allows the Droogs to work on their artistic skills, and learn from a professional artist.” Said Dianne Sheehan, Education and Public Programs Officer, Devonport Regional Gallery.
Megan and the Droogs will be on site in Rooke Lane at the following times:
Friday 22 September: 6.30 – 9 pm
Saturday 23 September: 9 am – 4 pm
Sunday 24 September: 9 am – 4 pm
