Clinton Pryor approaches next goal: Will Clinton & pollies find common ground?

Posted on

Aboriginal walker Clinton Pryor has crossed the continent to share insights from first nation communities with key federal politicians and the Governor-General in Canberra.

The 5581 km or 7 million-step walk is complete: sore leg and all. Now he has asked politicians and Sir Peter to leave the comfort of their offices and take a few not-so-token steps towards him. Mr Pryor carries with him the concerns and hopes of each aboriginal community he encountered, considered and sifted on his profound journey.

Tomorrow Tuesday 5 September from 8am, local elders and Clinton will be hosting Labor and Greens Senators and MPs at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in King George Terrace, Parkes. Deputy Leader of the Opposition Labor MP Tanya Plibersek has arranged to be the first visitor. The Greens are shortening a caucus meeting to attend the Aboriginal Tent Embassy.

Members of the media are invited and welcomed.

Given the social, political and colonial and Constitutional history of the Australian occupation, Clinton and local Elders consider it more appropriate that they meet outside on neutral territory.

It is currently planned that Clinton Pryor and four elders will meet with the Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull tomorrow at 9.20am at the Parliament House Forecourt (at the front of the building).

Leader of the Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten will also meet Clinton and Elders in the Forecourt at 11.20am.

Minister for Indigenous Affairs and the Northern Territory Nigel Scullion is also expected to parly with Mr Pryor at a time to be confirmed.
