The calls to investigate Tasmania’s child protection system is welcomed
The recent calls for the auditor general to investigate Tasmania’s child protection system is welcomed by Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Tasmania
SSFP Tasmania Wayne Turale said “Back in March and again in June 2017 we publically called for the sacking of the inempt Minister of Human Services Jackie Petrusma and a full review of child protection services.”
Wayne went on to say “The escalating drama involving Child Protection and agencies is untenable. Is has become evident over recent months with the public disclosures made by various parties that this Department is without proper leadership and appears to be in a state of chaos. The current system is broken and dis functional. We urge the Premier to act immediately to ensure the most vulnerable members of the Tasmanian community receive the service they so desperately need.”
SFFP Tasmania agrees we need an urgent independent enquiry regarding the governance of the department regarding its staffing levels, client load levels and commitments, safety, standard of service to the most vulnerable members of our community, children and also support for the carers who in the main, play an outstanding role for little reward.
Based on recent reports, the child protection process appears to systematically ignoring the welfare of children in foster care in lieu of profits. It is evident that there is a lack of governance and oversight regarding the delivery of these services.
Minister of Human Services Jackie Petrusma must be sacked.
